Global Palaeofire Working Group

New Data Downloads

The data have been compiled by the Global Palaeofire Working Group (GPWG) of the InternationalGeosphere-Biosphere Project Cross-Project Initiative on Fire. Some of these data were obtained directly from authors or co-authors, while others were digitized from published articles or reports. In some cases, radiocarbon dates were calibrated or re-calibrated and new age models were constructed to obtain the most accurate possible age estimates for all samples in the database. Chronologies may therefore differ in these records from those in the original publications. Please contact us (email Jennifer Marlon at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The GPWG is supported by the UK Natural Environment Research Council’s QUEST(Quantifying Uncertainty in the Earth System) programme, and workshop support has been provided by QUEST, the ARC-NZ Research Network for Vegetation Function,the University of Bristol, the University of Oregon, the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), and by the IGBP Integrated Land Ecosystems and Atmospheric Processes (iLEAPS) and Past GlobalChanges (PAGES) programmes. Data compilation were supported by the QUEST-Deglaciation project (MP, SPH), the QUEST DESIRE project (SPH), and by the US National Science Foundation Paleoclimatology (ATM-0714146)(PB) and Geography and Regional Science programs (BCS-072742) (PB and JM).
